Ideas for Thematic Study
Step One: Choose a theme to study. This isn’t a whole topic such as ‘prayer’ but a particular theme such as ‘the prayers of Jesus’.
Step Two: List the verses you want to study. Use a concordance or topical Bible to find a selection of verses relating to your theme. Then if you have too many, choose the most appropriate ones.
Step Three: Choose the specific questions you want to ask of each passage. Choose no more than 5 questions. (Who, what, why, where, when, how type questions are good). You may only need to ask one or two questions.
Step Four: Ask the questions of each reference. I.e. Go to the first reference and ask the questions you chose in Step Three, then go to the next reference and do the same. Make sure you write down any appropriate answers on a sheet of paper
Step Five: Draw some conclusions to your study.
Step Six: Write out a personal application.
