We often quote the end of 1 Cor 9 – but in reading the whole chapter, note the things that Paul was referring to that might be unhelpful for a runner or a boxer
Wednesday 1 Corinthians 10
Lessons from Israel, why not take a look at the events Paul mentions in verses 1-10 that can be found in Exodus 13, 14, 16, Numbers 21. (use the cross reference tab in the reference window on the Illumina bible page). Paul goes on to talk about freedom… how does this relate to the themes he refers to in Israel’s history?
Thursday 1 Corinthians 11
Mmm a more challenging opening to this chapter… remember that is a letter Paul was writing to a particular church in a particular culture at a particular time. Was he dealing with issues to do with Greek culture clashing with jewish culture in the anything goes culture of Corinth? Is he not simply talking about order and good practice within Church… similar to how he talks in the second half of the chapter
Friday 1 Corinthians 12
Another chapter where Paul seeks to explain ‘order’ within the local church. But do take the eternal truths about gifts out of this….!
