Ideas for Word Study
Step One: Choose your word!
Step Two: Find its English definition: use dictionary
Step Three: Compare translations: how do different Bibles translate the same word - eg the word you Are studying may be used in the NIV but not in the Youth bible, what word or phrase do they use instead?
Step Four: Find out what the original word meant. You might need a Bible dictionary or word study book: skip if you haven’t got one!
Step Five: Find the word’s occurrences in the Bible.: how many times? In what books? Which writers used it? In what books des it most occur?
Step Six: Discover the way the word is used in the Bible. In what context? Is their different ways of the word being used? How does the context of the passage help explain the meaning of the word?
Step Seven: Write out a personal application Write out how the understanding of this word is going to strengthen your spiritual life. Is there something you should do, attitude habit that should change?
